How to Build Google Chromium using VMWare Player and Ubuntu Karmic

First of all follow the directions laid out by www.chromium.org

Second I had to modify in this way:

Downloaded the Chromium (Browser) source tarball (.tgz) for the bootstrap SVN checkout using windows. I then extracted it to disk using 7-Zip.  Then I copied it from my Shared Folder to the VM using Ubuntu's File Browser.  Sure it takes a while but when you are done with that you will have all the source files on a virtual disk, where they take up fewer blocks of your hard drive.  If you don't believe me take a look in windows and it will tell you in properties "Size on Disk".  I guarantee it's bigger in windows than on that virtual disk.

Next I had to download the ChromiumOS source tarball or check out the SVN repository.  Guess which way I went.  That's right I checked out the repository.  Why?  Because the Chromium Browser has over 220,000 source files, and the OS has quite a bit less than that.  I just couldn't get the browser files downloaded any other way but using that tarball and then updating.

Next will be the gathering of dependencies, and then after that I'll be able to start building it.  Now remember all of this is being done in a VMWare virtual machine, with Ubuntu 9.10 installed.

AVATAR AVATAR AVATAR

I've seen Avatar the new James Cameron movie.  I liked it.  The 3D in it was very well done, and not too over the top.  This movie comes at the right time because of all the new advancements in polarization on TVs now allows us to have 3D HDTV.  They say that Avatar is going to be among the first movies to utilize this new technology.

UPDATE!

My life is going well so far. Which is probably why I haven't updated in a while. I really ought to update everyday, but c'est la vie. Anyway, I'm still living in a basement, and I love it. I've got it all setup nicely with easy chairs and everything. My fish seem happy, and my girlfriend seems happy too. I think I'll stay here a while.

I know I know it's an "Everything's Fine" blog post, but I really shouldn't mention my money woes on here cause it seems like "Oh why me?" When I know perfectly well it's my own fault.

I have just received two calls from "America" today and both times they have not answered my questions. In fact both times they have hung up on me. Now I'll tell you how the last one went:

Caller: Hi Christopher?

Me: Yes?

Caller: Hi my name is ******* (blanked for convenience) and I'm calling from "America" to tell you that you entered a contest online for a trip to Universal studios and I want toe tell you....

Me (inturrupting): I WOOOONN!!!!!!

Caller: yeah uhh....

Me: So what do you want from me?

Caller: I don't....

Me: well "America" called me earlier and I was just wondering what you really want.

Caller: I want to send you your travel package.

Me: well that's good!

Caller: Now I see that your birthday is December 31st 1980...

Me: ok

Caller: Is it?

Me: yes....

Caller: And I see that you are at 91 Louisa is that correct?

Me: Yeah, where did you get this information?

Caller: From online...

Me: From where online? What website?

Caller: From your e-mail...

Me: Which e-mail? I have 4 or 5 of them I would like to know which one....

Caller: Well I see you are a customer with Visa.

Friend: That's probably where they got it.

Me (to friend): Do you think they got it from Visa? TD is usually pretty good about not giving out information (to caller) Where did you get all this information did you hack Facebook or something

Caller: *click*

Me: Oh well they'll call again.

Plugging the Library

Check out your local library, they are as much a resource of information as this super highway you're on now.

Now that that is over I can tell you why I'm plugging the library. I went down there this week with my buddy, and picked up a stack of CDs a book, and a DVD of the Pirates of Penzance. Awesome stuff.

I now live in a basement apartment by my self, with two bedrooms, and I've been successful in filling them up! I am quite pleased with my new place, and it's quite affordable, now if only I didn't have to pay for food all the time.
