Hernia Update Day 9:

Has it really been that long since surgery?  I feel so close to healed it's incredible.  Now I'm still a little weak and I get the occasional pang of pain from the incision.  There's a little hard spot there and I'm pretty sensitive from the tape and band-aids.  But all in all I feel quite good.

Hernia Recovery update day 8

After much whining and moping about I finally got outside and had a walk with Christina.  I felt a lot better after the walk than before the walk.  So my swelling has gone down so far as to be non-existent and the only real sore I have is the cut.

Recovery Day 7:

The swelling in my scrotum has disappeared, finally!

Recovery Day 5:

That would be yesterday.  I did pretty good, but that pain in my hip was nearly unbearable at times.  It reminds me of the pain I get in my wrist every once in a while.  Where I move it and something inside goes snap and now it hurts.  Well I think it's just tension from the wound, cause I've not been relaxing that area very much.

Last night I took my last 2 ibuprofens, so I am out of effective pain killers for a while.  Also last night I started getting this weird tingling/bubbling sensation just below and behind my cut.  I think it's a good sign.

Hernia Update Day 4:

When we last left it I was on my way to my nephew's birthday party. Well I wasn't too bad throughout it, but when I got up to leave, I had this terrible pain in my hip, causing me to limp to the car.  I couldn't sleep with this crazy pain, so I gave in and took 2 ibuprofens.  Wow, what a difference.  Tylenol 3s don't work, but ibuprofen does!

Road to recovery from an inguinal hernia

So first day I get home and no pain killers.  My girlfriend had asked that the get delivered since it was only going to take 45 minutes anyway.   Well they were wrong and I didn't get my pills until 4 hours later.  Now 4 hours back from the hospital, after surgery, no pain killers is not a very fun time.  Ok, so it wasn't home it was my parent's house because the doctor said I shouldn't be alone with all those pain killers in my body.

Second day, I have a swollen testicle.  Just one, and it hurts.  Tylenol 3 with codeine and caffeine are doing absolutely nothing for me, the pain is still there.  The cut hurts, the swelling hurts and I can't believe how much it hurts when I stand.  I spend most of my day sitting in an easy chair at my parent's house, coddling my giant gut with an ice pack, and wishing I wasn't so constipated. It was so painful.  Luckily I was able to sneak a nap in and that got rid of some of my pain.  I had been taking T3s all along as ordered, 2 in the morning at 8, 1 every 4 hours after that until midnight before bed when I took 2 to sleep with.  All day I was twitching too. My back twitched and my gut twitched.

Day 3, I took two extra strength acetaminophen (500mg) when I woke up, and then no painkillers after that.  Felt miles better that day.  My side didn't feel like it was bruised anymore and I could breathe without wincing.  Also my back stopped twitching all the time and only twitched when I hurt the front of me.  The swelling still hadn't gone down, but a nap in the middle of the day really helped.

Day 4:  Now this is today and I've been up and about quite a bit.  Last night I re-heated my own dinner, and this morning i served myself some cereal.  Now this might not sound like much of a triumph to some people, but for the last 3 days I hadn't cooked at all.  That's like torture to someone like me.  Anyway I will be going to my nephew's first birthday party tonight, and I hope to be wearing something more than pajamas to it.

Right Inguinal Hernia, how I got it and how I fixed it.

I'm pretty sure I got my hernia by over doing it when picking up my gilfriend.  Litterally picking her off the floor and swinging her around.  I used to do it all the time, and after a bit I found a little lump in my groin area.  It felt exactly like a bit of my bowel had pushed out through the inguinal canal.  (you know, the tunnel your balls drop from.)  3 weeks after discovering this little bubble I went to the clinic at the old Hotel Dieu hospital to get a doctor to look at it and get it fixed.  I got an appointment with the surgeon for 3 weeks after that, then the surgeon set me up with a date for surgery another 3 weeks later and on the past Monday (yesterday) I got it fixed.  Now I've got a bit of pain and some swelling in my "Nether regions" especially on the right side, the same side as my hernia.  I'm told this is normal and may take up to 3 weeks to go away.  I'm not happy about the swelling, but boy am I glad I got this fixed.  in a month I can start back helping in the kitchen and chase kids at church on Wednesday nights and finally be able to live my life.
